Sawmilling

Using a Timberking Model 1200 Sawmill we have the capability to saw logs up to a 28 inches in diameter and 18 feet in length. In the top left picture this Poplar log measures 24 inches in diameter by 12 feet in length.

The first step in our process is to power wash the log. This prevents premature wear of the bandmill blade from dirt and debris that may have lodged in the bark during the skidding operation.

The log is then loaded on the mill using our front loader. It is then secured and cut into what is referred to as a "cant" as shown in the top right picture. This cant measures 16 inches wide by 17.5 inches high by 12 feet long.

This log was plain sawn into boards that measure 16 inches wide, 1 inch thick and 12 feet in length. After sawing, the boards are cleaned then stacked and stickered on a lumber cart in preparation for kiln drying as shown in the lower right picture.
